Jonathan Gorton began his martial arts journey in 2017, inspired by his older siblings and the anticipation of joining his friends in training. He earned his first-degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo in August 2022.
Jonathan has a deep appreciation for all aspects of martial arts but is particularly fond of Bo Jits, the first kata he learned with a weapon, and Won Su, which was his first kata in competition. Though he started training in Kenpo because it was the only style available in his area, he believes in its effectiveness as a self-defense system.
As an instructor, Jonathan thrives on helping students grasp complex concepts and cherishes the "aha" moments when things click for them. Outside of martial arts, he has a wide range of interests, including playing the piano, working on mechanics, fixing things, disc golf, and video games.
A couple of interesting facts about Jonathan: he once had a Nintendo DS Lite refurbishing business, and he had the exhilarating experience of driving a Lamborghini on a racetrack. Jonathan is from Hustonville, KY, and is currently working on furthering his education in college.
